Comprehensive Oracle SQL book with good examples
I have read several Oracle SQL books over the past few years and this one really hits the mark.

If you are new to Oracle or trying to catch up on some new features in 9i or 10g, or just haven't had the time to sit down and learn about iSQL*Plus yet, this book can get you off to a very good start.

The flow of the book was very logical - Starting off with the Relational Model and moving along to DDL, DML, data retrieval, and even some object-relational concepts. Along the way, coverage of SQL*Plus and the new iSQL*Plus are done in nice order. Even though I've been working at the SQL*Plus prompt for about 10 years, I'm always amazed to see the options and little helpful things that can make my job a little bit easier. Learning the tricks of report generation from your SQL*Plus session are invaluable and you will use these almost daily as a DBA.

Perhaps the most interesting chapter for me as an experienced Oracle DBA was the one on Advanced Features of Data Retrieval which introduced some new topics to me like Oracle's new Flashback Query and SQL Analytics. This is the first Oracle book I've seen that explains SQL Analytical and Windowing functions, which are quite advanced features in later releases of Oracle. His examples are good and I would look forward to seeing a whole section on this topic in future editions.

The flow of the book went well and I believe I will find this to be a useful reference for looking up SQL related info later on. Appendix A has a nicely formatted SQL Quick Reference which I anticipate using quite a bit.

As Mr. de Haan comes from the well regarded Oracle Education Course Development group, he added an exercises section at the end of each chapter. Though I often don't have the time while reading a techincal book to complete these, I definitely see the value and will make it a point to run through them to test or reinforce the topics I have read about.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning Oracle SQL or who would like to brush up on some new SQL features in Oracle9i and 10g.
