Apress has already published leading hardening titles, and welcomes the newest addition: Hardening Linux. If you're responsible for protecting computers that run on Linux, then this highly valuable book will show you how. Crucial topics such as file security, enhanced email security, and IMAP, DNS and FTP servers are all discussed. You will also become familiar with hardening bastion hosts—including firewalling with iptables, and secure remote access functionality using tools like OpenSSH.

As with our other hardening titles, Hardening Linux is complete with checklists and reference-style chapters. Each chapter may be used as a stand-alone "how to" for that particular application. Furthermore, a selection of additional resources is provided, including websites, mailing lists, and other reading suggestions for you to enhance your knowledge base.

A solid book on securing Linux servers
This may be the best book on securing Linux servers I have ever read. (And I have actually read several.) What makes this book so good is not the step-by-step configuration changes that help close various vulnerabilities, even though it has plenty of those. It's not even the coverage of a large number of services that you might want to make publicly available from your server, which the book also covers.

What makes this book better than most is the attention given to the "why" of each configuration change. Turnbull spends time explaining the reasons for his suggestions and even some of the pitfalls of his suggestions. He starts with basics like denying access by default and securely administering remote systems and walks you through locking down many services that you might want to provide publicly.

Unfortunately, this results in a very dense book. There's a lot of material to cover and all of it is thought-provoking. And, while that makes the book a tough read, it also makes it an important read. I definitely recommend this book to anyone securing a Linux system of any kind.
