31 Days Before Your CCNA Exam offers a very practical way to understand the Cisco certification process and what preparation is needed to take the 640-801 CCNA certification exam. The idea of breaking the test material down into manageable sections makes the test a lot less intimidating.

Each day in this guide breaks down an exam topic into a manageable bit of information to review using short summaries from relevant parts of the four Networking Academy CCNA semesters. The information is very concise and is extremely well illustrated. The summary provides excellent references for further study and critical items that should be reviewed prior to the examination. The summary also reviews the material that was experienced and serves as an excellent review for the examination preparation.

For anyone that has completed the four semesters of the Cisco Networking Academy CCNA program, the book relates the topics being discussed to the pertinent module of the Academy. I also found it very convenient to have all of the exam topics, format, registration, and voucher information all available at one location. Of particular importance to me were the protocols listed and the associated required commands. Thorough examples were displayed throughout the text that adds realism and relevance to the material. This makes it much easier to see the point the author is making and to retain the information.

The author has an excellent way of explaining some of the more complex configuration commands so that anyone can understand their meaning. He simply states the goals and shows you the configurations in an outlined format. The structure of each section includes a description, steps to configure, sample configurations, and how to verify a feature is functioning correctly.

Primarily because of the day by day sequence of topics I rate this book 5 stars and look forward to reading more books by this author.
