Customer Reviews
Customer Reviews: 8 Average Customer Rating: Dec 24, 2004 Kavsek from Boston Fairly complete coverage I was on my way to write more or less a negative review of this book, however I changed my mind and now I really think that this book is a *good* reference after all. Why?
First title on Oracle 10g new features that I read was Robert Freeman's book. With modest 200+ pages it's an excellent introductory kind of text and nothing more, it's far from being considered as a reference (or complete) guide to 10g new features.
On the other hand Mr. Ault, Liu and Tumma's book has from the very beginning the ambition to be a true REFERENCE, as complete as possible (they even write some short introduction about new bioinformatics features included in 10g!!). It is amazing how many information they managed to compile and present in detail, especially considering the timing - short beta cycle of 10g and obvious "gold rush" of the publisher (shame on you ;-).
Oct 27, 2004 Rick from Knoxville, TN Very average, not what I expect from these authors It is a good introductory into the beta version of 10g. Unfortuneately it appears it was written with the goal of being the first 10g new features on the market sacrificing quality. There are numerous errors. It is probably still worth the purchase as there is a lot of useful information.
Aug 27, 2004 Must read before planning 10g upgrade This book is full of useful insight in planning your move 10g, more than worth the price of the book.
Jul 3, 2004 Hank Ramblings The book is more ramblings than writings. Information is scattered throughout the book. Disjointed. Numerous errors. Information didn't always match the production release. Needs a competent editor.
Jun 4, 2004 A review from Boston reprint of beta documents This book was nothing more then a reprint of the 10g beta e-studies. If you were not in the beta program then this is a good review of the first beta release. However you should note that a lot has changed in what is now the production release.
Mar 31, 2004 A review from Yuma, Az. A good introduction but beware of errors! A good introduction to 10g new feature that suffers from apparently having been written using the Beta version of the product. Some of the content does not map to the production version of 10g and some does not work at all. This fact does not make the book unusable, however, and there is a lot of meat to be gotten from it's pages.
Feb 16, 2004 Mladen Gogala (mgogala@adelphia.net) from Connecticut.,USA Excellent and exhaustive book This is an excellent and exhaustive review of oracle 10g new features. It contains a great list of new features, together with clear explanations and numerous examples. Being a senior DBA, I find this book to be a great help in my study of 10g. Coming from Mike Ault, a well known author of database management books and a long time DBA himself, I expected nothing short of excellence, and, once again, Mike and his co-authors delivered. Excellent book, a must have for anybody who wants to learn about the oracle latest and the greatest databas
Jan 24, 2004 Sandi Freeman from Ft. Lauderdale, FL Great Coverage This is one of the best new features book that I have seen in quite some time. It goes beyond the high-level overview of the new 10g features and give working examples about how the features relate to existing Oracle9i systems.
This is one book that I expect to use very frequently as I get started in 10g.
