About the Technology:
Windows 2000 focuses on several key areas: distributed services, reducing the total cost of owning and operating a network of PCs, performance and scalability, and support for hardware advances. Through features such as the Active Directory, Distributed Security, clustering, and integrated networking services, Windows 2000 becomes a platform for distributed computing that scales from local area networks to the Internet. The Zero Administration Initiative for Windows, in conjunction with the Management Console and Systems Management Server, will make large-scale networks easier and less costly to deploy and maintain. 64-bit technology, advances in storage and I/O, improved network Quality of Service, plus support for the latest hardware buses, processors, and plug-and-play devices, will ensure that systems based on Windows 2000 will have the power and reliability to run the most mission-critical solutions.

Customer Reviews: 3 Average Customer Rating: Jul 30, 2003 Reid Dawson from Ohio Extremelly Valuable Resource So far I have taken the 70-210, and will be taking the 70-215 exams based off of studying these books alone. I passed the 210 the first try and expect to be able to pass the 215 first try as well. The books are full of good test questions and there are practice tests included that are very close to what I've seen in the actual certification exams. The practice exercises are very thorough and drive the technical aspects home. Definitely worth the money if you are going the self-study route or need a good reference for your job.
Feb 26, 2003 Bob Christian from Dual Citizenship in GA and NC Good Buy: Windoze Core Requirements I purchased the First Edition of this product back when MSPress had the ugly "Whitewashed" cover. It was definitely a great product and was chock full of tons of information.
If you own the First Edition, you may not want to purchase the Second Edition unless the 45% off is really enticing.
I would suggest, however, saving your money and waiting for the W2K3 version. If you really have money burning a hole in your wallet OR you are stocking up on books (at your employer's expense) that you can take with you during the next round of layoffs, purchase the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit...or both this and the W2K Reskit. The W2K Reskit has a bunch of GREAT books, including the TCP/IP Core Networking Guide.

Jan 18, 2003 Gudalupe O Lujan from El Paso, TX Windows 2000 Server book review The book reviewed in this set, is for those of us with some Windows 2000 server experience or for those that have read beginner's books on the same subject. It is rich in technical information for those of us that can read it and has enough information for those of us wishing to pass the current 70-215 microsoft exam. One of its strong points is that the set includes a 120-day version of Windows 2000 Server so that the labs can be performed at home or at school. The book emphasizes the use of a large network, but two PC's with a crossover cable is more than enough to perform the same chore. If one can afford it, three computers connected via a hub or a switch can also be used. You must be familiar with IP addressing so that you can set the domain controller and member server as indicated in the book. Other software can be used such as Norton's Ghost to perform the distribution of software on more than one computer at a time. The labs involve sophisticated procedures used in real life situations. Reviews of other books in the set will follow.
