Invaluable resource for actually working on it.
This is not the book if you want to certify on clusters, but if you are faced with implementing a cluster solution and making it work, this is the one.

Excellent 1st book to read on the subject
I'm putting together a W2K cluster with 4 servers and 2 disk arrays and this is my first try at it. Two servers are an IIS FE and the other two are an SQL BE. I'm teched out on HP & Compaq, but this is going on all-new-to-me IBM boxes. I have received the HW and have a couple of weeks to put it together w\o having been given a clear decision whether they want it load-balanced, failed over or a hybrid of the two. I believe they just want it all and reserve the right to change it later on me. This book is putting the wrapper and the glue around the vendor documentation and MS White Papers for me to ask the right questions, secure commitments and get the job done, while making sure to keep the customer aware of future issues if they decide to change their minds, later. If some good up-to-date vendor-specific examples of HP/Compaq, DELL, IBM, etc., in appendices or on CDROM were included, I would probably have given it 5 stars.

Excellent first book on Windows 2000 Clustering
My job is split between server administration and web development. One day my boss comes up to me and says 'We just bought a cluster server for our intranet. You can start setting it up anytime'. I thought 'Oh great. What the hell is a cluster?' and then started looking for a book to save my bacon. Using just this book, I was able to learn about clustering, plan our cluster, and successfully setup and configure a clustered intranet web server and file shares. Lamb assumes administrator skills on Windows 2000, but beyond that he provides pretty much all the background you need to set up standard types of cluster applications. He will get your cluster off the ground and provides detailed explanations of how to configure the hardware, drives, NICs, cluster service and cluster aware applications such as web, ftp, smtp, SQL Server, file shares and more. There's plenty more to learn about clustering, but this book will certainly get you going and I haven't seen much else out there for books on this subject.
