Feeble coverage
Freeman doesn't make technical things easy to understand, because there's hardly any technical matter in the book. Whenever the going gets tough, his excuse is 'not enough space, so please check the Oracle online documentation'.

I suppose it's good to have a compact list of areas which I now know have to be investigated, which is what this book provides. But it certainly doesn't do any of the investigative ground-work for you. And therefore it's certainly not worth the money I spent on it.

I recommend the Mike Ault book on Oracle 10g New Features instead. It has far more detail and is excellent.

Another great book!!
If you are an Oracle DBA and you want to get started with Oracle 10g's latest and greatest features, then Robert Freeman's 10g New Features book is a must buy! Written in his usual, clear, consice style, this book gives you a taste of everything that is new in this latest version of the Oracle database. Where Robert doesn't have enough room to fully show a new feature, he describes it enough to make you want to go learn the rest on your own. This is a must have book for Oracle DBAs!

Robert Freeman does it again!
Robert Freeman has again produced a book that we can benefit from.

Its great reading for beginner and expert alike for those of us wanting to know what the new release is capable of in easy to understand language that will be appreciated. For the beginning reader, it introduces 10g's new capabilities that can be enjoyed evaluating before deciding to migrate. For the more experienced reader, this book offers plenty of examples, reminding us "From now on, do it this way".

As an regular reader of technical books, I particularly enjoy the presentation style, especially those with examples. This is helpful for those of us that, with experience, have fallen into habits that we must now change. I am certain to use this book often in everyday usage of 10g, even after evaluation and implementation.

Robert, as always, your writing is indeed keeps our work interesting Also, thanks for keeping the OS particulars to a minimum, and dedicating the majority to Oracle Server. I welcome more of your books!

Finally, I do enjoy the helpful tips from Jonathan Lewis for offering advice on what's nifty and what pratfalls should be avoided. I've admired Mr Lewis' work for some time now, his method and approach is always welcome reading. My first understanding of 10g was that it turns what we've come to know about Oracle Internals inside out, it was refreshing to read the details from two great men who know.
