We asked some of our (and your!) favorite authors to share with us their favorite 10 computer books from the past 10 years. Here's what we got back.

Bill Evjen is an active proponent of .NET technologies and community-based learning initiatives for .NET. In 2000, Bill founded the St. Louis .NET User Group, one of the world's first .NET user groups. Bill is the founder and executive director of the 340,000 member International .NET Association (INETA).
Bill's books include Professional C#, 3rd Edition and Professional VB.NET 2003, Visual Basic .NET Bible and ASP.NET Professional Secrets.
Bill is a Technical Director for Reuters, the international news and financial services company, and he travels the world speaking about the future of the IT industry.

Bill's favorite books:
The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL by Ken Henderson -- This is the ultimate book on T-SQL and how to get the most out of it. It is one of those books that fellow authors look at and say, "Well, there is no need for another book on this subject. This one does it!"

Writing Secure Code by Michael Howard and David LeBlanc -- I actually own two copies of this book (one for the office and one for home). There is a reason that every Microsoft employee was required to read this book! It needs to be on your must-read list as well. (I also ended up with a third copy of this book which I gave to my local library.)

In Search of Stupidity: Over 20 Years of High-Tech Marketing Disasters by Merrill R. Chapman -- This book should be a requirement for anyone in the IT space. This book really clues you in on the path we have taken and how some of the giants of the industry have fallen. I really enjoyed how this book shows the power of community in deciding the fate of some of these companies.
(The author's original choice was an older edition that is now out of print. This link is to the current edition)

Active Server Pages for Dummies by Bill Hatfield -- This book was the first one I picked up when I started in the ASP space. It was a quick, to-the-point and humorous approach to learning the language. I really enjoyed working with ASP when it first came out and this book got me excited to learn more.

Programming Microsoft .NET by Jeff Prosise -- For folks that ask me for the "one" book they should get to learn .NET, I always point them to Mr. Prosise's book. It is the one-stop book on learning this platform. I have always found Jeff to be an excellent writer and presenter in this space and it is rather evident when you work through this book.

The C# Programming Language by Anders Hejlsberg, Scott Wiltamuth and Peter Golde -- This is the C# book (language only) to get in order to get in deep! Love it.
(The author's original choice was an older edition that is now out of print. This link is to the current edition)

HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide by Elizabeth Castro -- This is an excellent start to learning HTML. It was the book I used and I enjoyed it for its conciseness.
(The author's original choice was an older edition that is now out of print. This link is to the current edition)

Developing Microsoft ASP.NET Server Controls and Components (Out of print) by Nikhil Kothari and Vandana Datye -- I wish Nikhil would write more! He is "the guy" when it comes to ASP.NET server controls and this book is an absolute must have for any serious ASP.NET developer out there.

Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software by Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson and John Vlissides -- Proper object-oriented programming is the height of a programmer's ambitions and this book helps you to this path. Another must-read.

The Road Ahead by Bill Gates -- Though dated in 2005, much of this book was right on target and I really enjoyed this 1996 Christmas present I got. This book really got me excited on the potential of technology to shape our lives and to help everyone become better citizens. I really wish that more thought-leaders would publish thought-provoking technology books such as this.
