We asked some of our (and your!) favorite authors to share with us their favorite 10 computer books from the past 10 years. Here's what we got back.

Peter Rybaczyk is an internetworking consultant, a technical author, an IT seminar conductor and a business owner.

Peter has designed, installed and managed numerous LANs and WANs in diverse multiprotocol environments. And he has delivered more than 120 IT seminars worldwide.Earlier in the decade, he was involved for two years in the design, deployment, configuration and management of a nationwide VoIP network in the United States.

During his training career, Peter has conducted seminars on VoIP, routing protocols (OSPF and BGP), the TCP/IP protocol suite, Cisco routers and switches, network management, WAN switches, and data networks design and optimization. He has developed custom training courses on Cisco WAN management products, OSPF, rapid development tools and VoIP that he has delivered to audiences in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. He is a former Certified Cisco Systems Instructor (CCSI) and was the master of ceremonies at VoIP Congress 2003 in Singapore and VoIP Congress 2004 in Kuala Lumpur.

Peter has a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He also holds several industry certifications including CNE, CCNA and CCNP. Peter’s IT consulting firm, Convergent Netcom Services, is located in Tucson, Arizona.

Peter's favorite books:
Internetworking with TCP/IP, Volume 1: Principles, Protocols and Architectures by Douglas E. Comer – Simply put, it’s the TCP/IP classic!

Routing TCP/IP, Volume 1 by Jeff Doyle – It’s the one-stop reference for the inner workings of interior gateway routing protocols including RIP, OSPF, IS-IS, IGRP and EIGRP.
(The author's original choice was an older edition that is now out of print. This link is to the new edition now available)

Internet Routing Architectures by Sam Halabi with Danny McPherson – This book, like no other, allows you to master the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), which glues the Internet together into a cohesive network of networks.

Digital Telephony by John C. Bellamy – If your background is in data communications but you want to develop an understanding of telephony as you leap into VoIP and communication over packet, this book has what you need to help you bridge that gap.

Cisco LAN Switching by Kennedy Clark and Kevin Hamilton – Unbeatable reference for VLANs, switching techniques, Spanning Tree and more, even if in the context of Cisco’s Catalysts.

GPRS in Practice – A Companion to the Specifications by Peter McGuiggan – This one is for serious fans of General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) to transmit data over GSM networks.

Network Security: Private Communication in a Public World by Charlie Kaufman – This is a cryptography classic for network administrators and engineers.

Cisco Router Troubleshooting Handbook by Peter Rybaczyk – Yes, it’s another one of mine. It’s five years old. And I still refer to it.

Integrating Voice and Data Networks by Scott Keagy – A classic for those grappling with issues relating to convergence of all communications (voice, data, video, fax) on IP-based networks.

Takedown: The Pursuit and Capture of Kevin Mitnick, America's Most Wanted Computer Outlaw-By the Man Who Did It (Out of Print) by Tsumotu Shimomura with John Markoff – It’s the ultimate cyber thriller detailing the pursuit and capture of the most notorious hacker, Kevin Mitnick. References to technology from the mid-1990s do not detract from the action.
