Bert Bates
Bert Bates is a software developer and author. Recently he has been combining his background in artificial intelligence with his interests in learning theory and technology-based training to help create the Head First series of technology books. He is also a member of most of Sun's Java Certification development teams.
He spent the first decade of his career traveling the world to help broadcast clients such as Radio New Zealand, the Weather Channel and the A & E network. One of his favorite projects was architecting a full, rail-line simulation system for Union Pacific railroad.
Bert is a hopelessly addicted Go player and continues to fail to create a Go playing program. He is designing a music-reading, piano-playing robot using Lego Mindstorms and applying metacognitive principles to teaching his new Icelandic horse, Andi, just who's the alpha-horse.
