How Microsoft Windows Vista Works
by Michael Miller
Que Publishing
December 2006
While I, along with tens of thousands of others were on the Windows Vista beta, there are those times when I wonder if I’m really using the new operating system the way I should be, or whether there are things in Vista or other ways of doing things that are better. So I picked up this book and found a LOT of great tips and hints on using Windows Vista in a better manner (okay, yeah, I still drop to a DOS prompt to search and xcopy files, sorry old habits never die…)

Microsoft SharePoint 2007 Unleashed
by Michael Noel and Colin Spence
Sams Publishing
April 2007
SharePoint 2007 (or the formal name of Microsoft Office SharePoint Services (MOSS) 2007) is one of the hottest products out of Microsoft in a long time. Now in its third generation, SharePoint actually works now and is great for document sharing, content management, workflows, wikis, and blogs in enterprise environments! I like this Unleashed title, covers MOSS from soup to nuts!

Special Edition Using Microsoft Office Project 2007
by QuantumPM LLC
Que Publishing
May 2007
Okay, I have to admit that before I got this book, I used Microsoft Project like a spreadsheet where I’d add in tasks using the INS and DEL key off the keyboard and I moved around using the arrow keys on the keyboard. So I got this book and for the first time really understood all that I could do with Project, and in particular how the things that Project 2007 can do today that you couldn’t do before.

The Art of Photoshop, CS2 Edition
by Daniel Giordan
Sams Publishing
September 1995
When I break away from the Windows server environment into more of the recreational side of my life, I grab my digital camera and snap off pictures, and then sit down with this Art of Photoshop book to go through and crop, edit, and merge pictures for my family website and photo album. LOTS of great tips, tricks, and step by step guidance, a must for anyone with a digital camera!

MCSA/MCSE 70-290 Exam Cram: Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment, 2nd Edition
by Dan Balter and Patrick Regan
Que Publishing
March 2007
As much as I’ve written several bestselling books on Windows 2003, I still have to study to take the Microsoft MCSE exams because what I write about in my books about real world best practices and lessons learned versus what Microsoft expects you to theoretically know to pass their tests is sometimes very different. So I turned to the Exam Cram series once again for the best resource to prepare me for the certification exams!

CISSP Training Guide (ISC) Certified Info. Systems Security Professional by Roberta Bragg
Que Publishing
November 2002
Yep, my year for upping my credentials and earlier this year I embarked on adding CISSP to the list of initials behind my name, so I turned to the CISSP Training Guide as my reference guide to prepare me for the exam. Well I passed the CISSP exam on my first outing, so I’d have to say this book must have had the right stuff in it! I did find the information well-organized, great hints throughout the text, and a great CD with practice exam materials on it!

Tricks of the Microsoft Office 2007 Gurus
by Paul McFedries
Sams Publishing
May 2007
For any veteran Microsoft Office user, you know that Office 2007 is COMPLETELY different than previous versions and as they say, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Well for all you other old dogs out there who had Office 2003 and earlier versions mastered, pick-up a copy of this Gurus book. It takes you right to the stuff that you want to know and need to know in getting the most out of Office 2007. It doesn’t waste your time teaching you how to click the mouse button or use a pull down bar. For Office novices or experts, this book cuts to the chase and gets you going fast!

Windows PowerShell Unleashed
by Tyson Kopczynski
Sams Publishing
May 2007
With Exchange 2007, Ops Mgr 2007, and now Windows 2008, Microsoft has put PowerShell as the scripting engine behind the administration tools of these products with plans to include PowerShell in all upcoming Microsoft server products. This book, PowerShell Unleashed not only brings a novice scripter up to speed on the basics of PowerShell but also has a lot of GREAT sample cmdlets, real world examples, and provides excellent guidance on how to be use and leverage PowerShell for routine tasks!

Microsoft ISA Server 2006 Unleashed
by Michael Noel
Sams Publishing
Est Publication December 2007
Microsoft ISA Server is one of those products that has been slow to adoption in enterprise environments, however organizations with Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Windows, SQL, or other network technologies have begun to realize the value ISA provides for security. This book on ISA 2006 is one of the most comprehensive books I’ve found on the topic from planning and preparation through implementation, configuration, tuning, and optimization!

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 On Demand
by Andy Anderson and Steve Johnson
Est Publication August 2007
Anybody doing web development work relative to CSS files, Flash elements, page layouts, forms, sites, or templates using Dreamweaver would find this book of substantial guidance in those efforts. The book doesn’t just tell you how to do something, it walks you through the process as if you had a mentor leading you through the process. So instead of simply knowing the buttons to push or the code to type in, you understand why you are doing things and the best way to make it all work!
