Windows NT Shell Scripting is a comprehensive reference for network professionals. It is the only book available on the practical use of the Windows NT shell scripting language. The book begins with a high-level introduction to the shell language itself, then describes the shell commands that are useful for controlling or managing different components of a network, i.e. file management, etc. The second part of the book is a comprehensive reference of all the commands, organized by function, for easy reference by the reader.

Customer Reviews: 3 Average Customer Rating: Oct 17, 2002 You'll be surprised how much time you can save!!! While the book is intended for Sys Admins, even if you are just a regular Win NT user and find yourself having to repeatedly do the same tasks over and over again, and find it frustrating that there is no good documentation for how to take advantage of NT Scripting to automate tasks, get this book.
Just by reading the first four chapters of this book I've created several scripts that perform/automate several of my monotonous tasks, as simple as they may be. I'm saving a lot of time and frustration thanks to this book.
I would also recommend that along with this book you get Windows Script Host, also by Tim Hill. Both these books have become an invaluable dispense to my daily tasks.
Jun 22, 2001 You are not a sysadmin till you read this book! This answered arcane questions easily and directly set me on the road to power scripting in 2 weeks!
Feb 6, 2001 Bersagel from Westminster, Colorado, USA The Perfect Learning & Reference Guide I Love this book, so much that we purchased 5 copies for everyone in our Group. It teaches everything from the most basic drive mapping techniques, to user adminstration, and has excellent coverage of the NT Resource Kit Utilities. Definately worth the $20.
