Example Bookmark
Bookpool LLC, an Internet bookstore specializing in technical books at large discounts, is holding the Bookmark Design Contest to find creative bookmark designs that will appeal to purchasers of technical books and will promote Bookpool.

The Bookmark Designs are intended to be printed on transparent frosted mylar. Only three colors may be used in each design. The first color must be white, which represents the transparent frosted mylar background (canvas). The artist can choose the remaining two colors, which must be solid and of one shade each (i.e. dark red and light red are two different colors). If you wish to see the Example Bookmark to the right printed on transparent frosted mylar, please email your mailing address to contest@bookpool.com and we will send you one.

Conditions

  1. Bookmarks should appeal to purchasers of technical books.
  2. Bookmarks preferably should contain the following text: bookpool.com and Discount Technical Books (or a similar slogan that emphasizes discounts and technical books).
  3. The bookmarks are intended to be printed on transparent frosted mylar. Only three colors may be used in each design. The first color must be white, which represents the transparent frosted mylar background (canvas). The artist can choose the remaining two colors, which must be solid and of one shade each (i.e. dark red and light red are two different colors). Due to limitations in the printing process, designs containing extremely small fonts or tightly packed fine lines may not be accepted.
  4. Bookmarks must be in GIF or JPG formats. No animated bookmarks will be accepted.
  5. Submitted bookmarks must be 144 pixels wide by 504 pixels high (2 inches by 7 inches at 72 dpi) and of good quality (i.e. rough sketches will not be accepted). Winners must submit a final high quality version at 300 dpi (600 pixels wide by 2100 pixels high).
  6. Maximum bookmark file size is 16 Kbytes (for the initial 72 dpi version).
  7. You may enter more than one bookmark, but no more than three.
  8. All bookmarks must be original designs created by the entrant. Some clip-art may be used, but winners must certify that Bookpool LLC retains all rights to the bookmark designs without restriction. Winners will need to document where the clip-art came from, under what terms it was used, and that the designs containing the clip-art can be used free of charge for commercial use.
  9. Bookpool LLC judges will select three winning bookmarks, a first prize bookmark (USD $3000), a second prize bookmark (USD $2000), and a third prize bookmark (USD $1000).
  10. Bookpool LLC receives all rights to the winning bookmarks, including, but not limited to, complete exclusive ownership of the bookmarks, the right to use and display the bookmarks in any media and any format, and the right to modify the bookmarks.
  11. Bookpool LLC will receive no rights to the bookmarks that do not win the contest.
  12. Winners who are US citizens or who are living in the US will need to fill out and return an IRS W-9 form before they will be able to receive their prize.
  13. Prizes will be paid as a US check in US dollars.
  14. Deadline: Bookmarks must be submitted by Friday January 25, 2002. A list of top contenders will be displayed for a several week long review period to allow everyone to verify that the bookmarks are original designs, after which time the final winners will be selected.

Submission of Bookmarks

Please e-mail bookmarks to contest@bookpool.com, and please include your name, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number. By sending the bookmark to Bookpool LLC, the entrant is agreeing to the conditions stated above.
